    art pen not changing brush rotation

    hello,

    i just got my new wacom art pen, using it with a intuition 3 on painter x on windows xp

    sofar everything seems fine, the brush preview shows the rotation, but as soon as i touch the drawing board, the brush rotation jumps back to what ever is set in the brush settings via the angle slider.

    i have tried setting the angle to 'rotation' in the dropdown, with and without the checkbox activated behind the dropdown, but didnt change the result.

    i am using the german version of painter x, so i am not sure if this brush setting is called angle and rotation but i think so, i am talking of 'winkel' and 'drehung' if some german users are here.

    how can i make painter to take the art pen's rotation into account?

    thanx in advance

    Hi, and welcome to The PainterFactory!

    Question:

    Have you downloaded the latest Wacom driver and installed it?

    Let me know, then maybe I can give you some suggestions.

    ich hab zwar selbst keinen 6D pen aber soweit ich das richtig verstanden hab funktioniert der stift nur mit bestimmten brushs, weis nicht mit welchem dus probiert hast aber ich glaube aus der "realistische borstenpinsel" kategorie sollten alle mit dem 6D pen interagieren. Am besten schnappst dir einen flachen pinsel aus dieser kategorie z.b. "fächerpinsel weich" und drehst dann deinen stift mal ein bischen, wenns funtzt sollts dann recht deutlich zu sehen sein.

    could even be that the 6D pen only works with the realbristle brushs, independent of the angle/rotation (winkel/drehung) settings, not sure about that though. maybe also works with for example the oil brushs if you activate the checkbox under the categorie realbristles (that one does only work with a few brush categories), you´ll have to experiment a bit.

    The Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and 6D Art Pen can be used to express Rotation with many brush variants in Painter X and Painter X.1 in addition to those found in the RealBristle Brushes category.

    thanx for the quick replies

    @Jinny Brown:

    yes, i have downloaded and installed the newest wacom driver, the rotation is detected correctly, i can see it in the brush preview (hope this is the real name) as long as i leave the pen over the drawing board, as soon as i touch the drawing board, rotation is reset to the value in the brush setup

    @wall

    i tried several, including realbristle brushes, i have seen a tutorial where someone uses it with the art pen, and i tried more, always the same

    it is almost as some setting overwrites the brush settings, as soon as pressure comes into play.

    Thanks.

    I called Tech Support at Wacom America this morning and they told me if you had not installed the latest driver, the procedure to follow would be:

    1. Remove the current driver.
    2. Restart your computer.
    3. Install the new driver.

    On the chance you did not follow that procedure when installing the new driver, you might want to remove the new driver, then restart, and reinstall the new driver to see if that works.

    They also said if you've installed the latest driver, to go to:

    Start > All Programs > Wacom Tablet  and in the flyout menu, click Tablet Preferences File Utility. I don't know what you'll need to do next since I don't have an Intuos 3 tablet but hopefully it will be self explanatory.

    If not, or if it doesn't fix the problem, they said you should contact Wacom Tech Support.

    Good luck!

    Re: art pen not changing brush rotation

    for the record:

    with the (payed :-/ ) help of corel i found the source of the problem. it is the wacom driver, although i still think its painters fault.

    the thing is, wacom publishes drivers taged with the letters RC, newest currently 6.10, and without these letters, newest currently 4.93 (!). painter has problems with the RC drivers.

    i think this is not a problem of the wacom drivers. i noticed, that the same thing that happended with rotation, also happens with the tilt of the pen. but as a programmer, i can prove, that the wacom driver is still delivering the right tilt information if the pen is on the board, but painter ignores it. i currently don't know how to read rotation from the driver, but i am pretty sure, rotation is also reported correct by the driver. i have informed corel, lets hope the developers will have a look on that, in the meanwhile, if you experience the same problems, you better use wacom drivers versioned below 5

    greetings,

    Hi,

    It's good to hear you found the solution.

    Thanks for letting Corel know this needs to be fixed if, in fact, it's not something wrong with the RC driver after all.
